Frognerseteren in Nordmarka, Oslo
On our journey to the top of Holmenkollen Ski Jump, we were sure not to miss the sights at Frognerseteren. We stayed on board the train for a few more stops, to the end, and walked down about 15 minutes to Frognerseteren.
Frognerseteren is not only a popular starting point for a hike or ski into Oslo, but the site of a popular restaurant that offers a slice of the classic Norwegian apple pie and a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the city and the Oslo Fjord. The log cabin is rustic and charming. The food is classic Norwegian.
In the morning, we went for their cafeteria-style dining. I recommend the apple cake with whipped cream. The apple pie was covered in unsweetened whipped cream and balanced the sweet apple cake perfectly. We found this specialty dotted on almost every table.
By night, Frognerseteren becomes a place for fine diners seeking a romantic table atop Oslo. In the meantime, get a seat by the window and enjoy the scenic Oslo skyline before you continue your trek down to the Holmenkollveien ski jump museum.
